UPCOMING EVENTS

The Clinicians at Perth Oral Medicine and Dental Sleep Centre are passionately involved in education through the delivery of Continuing Professional Development courses at various events. In fact, collectively our specialists have delivered thousands of hours of lectures, seminars, hands-on sessions and webinars. The events our specialists typically present at are organised by medical and dental practitioners. However, our Clinicians also speak at charity events, and to special interest and support groups. Our Clinicians are often invited to present both nationally and internationally in the field Oral Medicine. As a group, the Clinicians draw from both current research and clinical experience to develop presentations that are clinically applicable. Associate Professor Ramesh Balasubramaniam,  and Dr. Amanda Phoon Nguyen will be speaking at the Oral Medicine Academy of Australasia webinar on Considerations for AI Use in Dentistry and Oral Medicine.

Dr Amanda Phoon Nguyen is co-chair of the Organising Committee, and will also be co-presenting a masterclass “Practicalities in Managing Medically Complex and Special Needs Patients” at the Fine Edge of Dentistry Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons Meeting, with special care dental specialist Dr Zainab Malik. A/Prof Ramesh Balasubramaniam OAM will be presenting at the Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch Convention 2026, Beyond the Bite: Truths, Trends and Tomorrow's Tech, held in Melbourne. Ramesh will be presenting on "Persistent Toothache Unravelled: Beyond Odontogenic Pain", offering clinicians a practical, evidence-based framework for identifying and managing toothache that extends beyond conventional odontogenic causes. A/Prof Ramesh Balasubramaniam OAM and Dr Lalima Tiwari will be presenting at GPCE Perth 2026, held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.  Their session, “Oral medicine in everyday practice: Red flags, diagnostic uncertainty, and when to refer,” will take a practical look at the oral presentations that commonly arise in general practice. The session will explore recognising important red flags, navigating diagnostic uncertainty and knowing when referral for specialist assessment is appropriate. A/Prof Ramesh Balasubramaniam OAM will be presenting at the 24th Scientific Meeting of the Asian Academy of Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders (AAOT), held in Bali, Indonesia. Ramesh will be delivering the opening keynote on "Biopsychosocial Considerations for Orofacial Pain", challenging the biomedical model and presenting an evidence-based framework that integrates psychological, social, and biological factors in the assessment and management of orofacial pain conditions. A/Prof Ramesh Balasubramaniam OAM will be presenting as an invited speaker at the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Orofacial Pain (ANZAOP) Conference, Controversies in Orofacial Pain, held at the Adelaide Hilton. Ramesh will be presenting on two topics: "Sleep & Awake Bruxism – Is There Really a Facial Pain Connection?" and "To Splint or Not to Splint – Navigating One of OFP's Greatest Debates." The two-day conference brings together orofacial pain clinicians from all over Australasia to engage with some of the discipline's most debated clinical questions.
